Baby teeth and their importance

Baby teeth are the first teeth that emerge in the mouth of young patients. Unfortunately, their importance is often underestimated.

Baby teeth have several functions:

  • have influence on language development
  • allow for correct nutrition
  • they help maintain suitable space for permanent teeth
  • guarantee an aesthetic appearance of the face.

The early loss of baby teeth increases the possibility of developing malocclusion and the need for treatments using orthodontic appliances. Infections related to deciduous teeth can also spread to permanent teeth. These are the main reasons why we need to pay great attention to children's oral hygiene and intervene if necessary.

To avoid trauma and phobias it would be advisable to contact the dentist with our children even before experiencing dental problems. Informative visits give the young patient the opportunity to get to know the environment, the instruments and create a relationship of trust with the doctor. It is important that the first memories of the appointment are linked to the positive and pleasant atmosphere and not immediately to therapeutic treatments.
